Oregon lawmakers moonlight as amateur scientists


Oregon Senator Alan Olsen, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources wrote an important editorial documenting the questionable scientific basis for Senator Bates' declaration of the existence of a "state of emergency."  Olsen notes, "...not once during the many hours of public testimony was the committee presented with scientific evidence that the practice of small-scale suction dredge mining is damaging to fish populations or the environment."  (Full story:  click here)
